Rotterdam, Netherlands — Amstel Shipping and Agency B.V.'s tank storage terminals have been awarded ISCC PLUS certification, enabling full chain-of-custody mass balance accounting for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), bio-LNG, and other renewable marine fuels handled at its Rotterdam and Amsterdam sites.
ISCC PLUS is the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification scheme used to verify the sustainability credentials of bio-based and circular feedstocks outside the scope of the EU's core renewable energy directive. Certification requires independently audited traceability from the point a renewable feedstock enters Amstel's terminals through to the point it is discharged to a customer or bunker vessel.
In practice, this means every batch of HVO, bio-LNG, or other renewable marine fuel stored at an Amstel terminal now carries a documented, auditable mass-balance record — allowing customers to demonstrate the sustainability credentials of the fuel they load, and to meet their own reporting obligations under frameworks such as FuelEU Maritime and the EU Emissions Trading System.
The certification builds on infrastructure already in place across Amstel's terminal network, including nitrogen-blanketed stainless steel tankage dedicated to renewable feedstocks and inline blending manifolds capable of precise viscosity and specification control. It complements the company's existing ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications under a single, coherent HSEQ and sustainability framework.
"Customers increasingly need to prove where their renewable volumes came from, not just claim it," said a member of Amstel's energy transition team. "ISCC PLUS gives our biofuel customers documentation they can actually stand behind."
