Amstel Terminals Achieve ISO 45001 Safety Milestone

Amsterdam / Rotterdam, Netherlands — Amstel Shipping and Agency B.V. has certified its Amsterdam and Rotterdam terminal operations to ISO 45001:2018, the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems, reinforcing the company's zero-harm operational commitment.

The certification follows an external audit of Amstel's risk assessment processes, incident reporting systems, and workforce training programs across both terminal sites. ISO 45001 replaces the older OHSAS 18001 framework and places greater emphasis on proactive hazard identification, leadership accountability, and continuous improvement — principles Amstel has built into its existing HSEQ management system.

Day-to-day, the standard is reflected in practices already familiar to Amstel's terminal workforce: mandatory PPE enforcement, structured toolbox talks before high-risk work, double-bottom tank containment bunds, and automated gas detection tied directly to emergency shutdown valves. The certification formalizes these practices under a single, independently audited management framework.

ISO 45001 now sits alongside Amstel's existing ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certifications, completing the three-standard HSEQ framework the company applies across its storage and port agency operations.
