ASA Expands LNG Bunkering Capacity at Rotterdam Terminal

Rotterdam, Netherlands — Amstel Shipping and Agency B.V. has commissioned new ship-to-ship LNG bunkering infrastructure at its Rotterdam Europoort terminal, increasing cryogenic transfer capacity by 40% and reinforcing the terminal's role as a bunkering hub for the region's growing fleet of dual-fuel vessels.

The expansion adds a dedicated cryogenic berth alongside additional loading arms and boil-off gas handling equipment, allowing simultaneous bunkering operations without disrupting conventional fuel oil and gasoil throughput elsewhere on the terminal. The upgrade forms part of Amstel's wider terminal modernization program, which is also introducing nitrogen blanketing arrays and high-voltage shore power across the Rotterdam and Amsterdam network.

LNG and bio-LNG bunkering demand across the ARA region has grown steadily as shipowners bring dual-fuel newbuilds into service ahead of tightening EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime requirements. The additional capacity allows Amstel's port agency and terminal teams to schedule more concurrent bunkering calls, reducing waiting time for vessels transiting the Rotterdam approach channels.

"This expansion is a direct response to what our customers are telling us — dual-fuel capacity at berth is becoming as important as fuel oil availability," said a spokesperson for Amstel's terminal operations team. "Rotterdam's position on the ARA corridor makes it a natural hub for this transition, and we intend to keep pace with it."

The new berth is now accepting bunkering nominations. Vessel operators and charterers can coordinate LNG bunkering schedules directly through Amstel's port agency desk.
